Advances in veterinary technology
As human medical technology becomes more advanced so does medical technology in the animal world. Different things are now available for your pets. Veterinarians are able to diagnose animals, and preform surgeries much easier now that they have the technology at their disposal. Here is a list of some the different technology available for vets to use.
Laser Surgery- A laser can (if focused enough) cut through soft tissue. This process make removing painful tumors much easier. The laser makes precise cuts and seals blood vessels as it cuts making surgeries much easier, there is less blood loss, and is much less painful.
Endoscopy- Endoscopy is simply a tube and camera that is sent down an animals throat so that the vet can see its internal organs. They can also insert little tools through the tube to get tissue samples to help diagnose the animal.
Ultrasound- Ultrasound is just a translucer that send high frequency sound waves through the animals body and measures the sound waves that return. It creates a still or moving picture. By using this method veterinarians can tell if an animal is pregnant or not.
Echocardiography- This is just a ultrasound for the heart. It is the same procedure as a regular ultrasound but is used to detect heart murmurers, or congestive heart failure.
MRI- Magnetic resonance imaging is much more accurate than a x-ray. It uses powerful magnets and radio wave technology to get a view of the animals internal organs. MRI's can even make images through the bone. They can make images based on the way the atoms in the body react to the radio waves in the magnetic field. This procedure is not available to all veterinarians, so your pet's vet may not have this procedure available.
Advancements in veterinary medicine are very important. When new technology is available veterinarians are able to diagnose illnesses faster, and preform better, faster, easier surgeries. Not only does this make the vet's job easier it gives your pet a better chance of surviving the illness.
